The Village of South Elgin is a close knit community rich in history and natural beauty. South Elgin is a village that is easily accessible, but tucked away far enough to be free of busy highways. South Elgin residents enjoy a high standard of living, a healthy park system, and friendly gathering places. South Elgin is just south of its nearest neighbor, Elgin, and only a few miles north of St. Charles along the Fox River. The village is roughly 40 miles northwest of Chicago, and immediately south of the Elgin Bypass, US Route 20. South Elgin is primarily surrounded by unincorporated neighborhoods, but does share nearby borders with Wayne, Campton Hills and Bartlett. Highway 20 runs east to west just north of South Elgin, and provides residents with quick access to the Elgin/O’Hare Bypass.. Interstate-90, with access to Rockford and Chicago, is only a few miles north. Travelers who need to fly can reach O’Hare International in 30 minutes. Commuters who wish to take the train into Chicago can catch the Metra Milwaukee District West Line at National Street in Elgin, or Railroad Avenue in Bartlett. Fantasy fans look forward to the Annual Celebration of The World of Faeries Festival in Vasa Park. The festival is held in August, features world/fantasy music, live entertainers, and merchants with their fantasy wares. The Annual Scandinavian Day Festival is also held in Vasa Park. Every September, ancestors of Scandinavians gather for food, crafts, and fellowship. Live Scandinavian inspired music is performed and Nordic Cultural artifacts will be available to teach a new generation about their special history. The Park District of South Elgin manages 40 parks on 360 acres of land.
