In this Agent Spotlight, get to know Gergana Todorova of the Northwest Suburban office. Gergana Todorova began her career in 2005 after relocating to the Chicago suburbs from North Carolina. Although she holds degrees in both Criminal Justice and Business, her passion lies in real estate, to which she has dedicated the past 21 years of her life. "Being a real estate agent is not just a job for me — it is a passion that I take personally with every client I have the opportunity to work with," says Gergana. "In some cases, these professional relationships have blossomed into lasting friendships."

Gergana advises fellow agents to prioritize both professional and social skills, continually educate themselves, and maintain a passion for making a difference in clients' lives. For her, changing a client's life for the better is what it's all about. "There is nothing more satisfying than seeing someone I helped years ago tell me that, because of my assistance and advice, they have created a life they otherwise wouldn't have," says Gergana.

Honesty is also key to her success in real estate, even when it involves difficult conversations. "Helping my clients distinguish between what they need and what they want is often the best approach," she says. She values Baird & Warner for its supportive environment and educational resources.

Gergana appreciates living in the Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village area for its amenities, accessibility, and proximity to Chicago. In her free time, Gergana enjoys spending time with her children and engaging in social events that energize her. What is your background? Have you always been a real estate agent? If no, please explain.

My professional services career began in 2005 when my family and I relocated from North Carolina after living there for six years. Being a real estate agent is not just a job for me; it is a passion that I take personally with every client I have the opportunity to work with. In some cases, these professional relationships have blossomed into lasting friendships. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, which I earned in 2009, and a Bachelor's degree in Business, which I completed in 2000.

How many years have you been a real estate agent and why do you enjoy being one?

I have been involved in real estate for the past 21 years, started investing 16 years ago and have been working professionally in the field for nearly 11 years.

What is a meaningful real estate experience you've had with a buyer or seller?

Changing lives for the better is always meaningful. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing someone I helped years ago tell me that, because of my assistance and advice, they have created a life they otherwise wouldn't have.

What's one piece of advice that you can share with other real estate agents?

Being a good agent requires experience, not only professionally but also socially. Continuously educating and investing in ourselves, along with a passion for changing people's lives, is essential for anyone who wants to dive into this incredibly challenging profession!

What do you think is the key to a successful real estate business?

Sometimes the truth hurts, like telling a seller that their home is not perfect, or informing a buyer that their expectations are too high. However, being honest will save them from future pain and frustration. Clients will appreciate this in the long run. Helping my clients distinguish between what they need and what they want is often the best approach. Not everything they want is something they truly need. It is a process!
