In addition to traditional spring cleaning, this time of year also invites us to revamp and re-envision our homes. Join us in celebrating warmer days ahead by embracing these spring decor trends in your Chicagoland home!
  • Replace heavy drapes with breezy curtains
Gone are the dark winter months. Embrace the longer daylight hours by stashing heavy drapes for the season. In their place hang up some light, flowy curtains that let more sunlight in. It won't be long before the days are warm enough to open the windows.

  • Rearrange your bookshelves
If your bookshelves have looked more or less the same for several years, now is a great time to liven them up! Instead of alphabetical order — or, more realistically, no order at all — try arranging your books by color, assigning a specific palette to each shelf. Thinning out your books and displaying just a select few can also create a more spacious look.

  • Plant some potted bulbs
You'll start to see bulbs springing outside any day now, but they don't have to be restricted to outdoor gardens. Planting spring bulbs like tulips, daffodils, crocuses and irises in terracotta pots is a great way to bring these classic seasonal blooms indoors. They make a beautiful addition to coffee tables and dining rooms this time of year.

  • Get new throw pillows
Spring is a great time to update the color scheme in your living room. One of the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective ways to do that is to swap out throw pillows. Try a floral pattern, an inviting sage green or a pale blue — just be sure to choose colors that don't clash with the rest of the room.

  • Hang a floral shower curtain
Speaking of floral patterns, you can add a springlike vibe to your bathrooms this season by replacing your old curtains with light floral-patterned shower curtains. Chances are, those old curtains needed to be replaced anyway!

  • Reorganize your mudroom
Spring is the season of tramping mud in from the garden, so show your mudroom or entryway a little love. In addition to a deep clean, consider investing in some new doormats and shoe organizers, and maybe updated storage for outdoor gear, garden tools, spring jackets and hats.

  • Invest in wallpaper
Ready for a real project? Wallpaper is trendy right now, and the brighter and bolder the better. It's a great option to revamp a hallway, bathroom, stairwell or entryway. Spring florals and similar patterns might be just what your home needs. Just make sure you pick something you'll like in every other season.

  • Open up your kitchen storage
If your kitchen cabinets are starting to feel a little worn out and outdated, consider switching them out for open storage. It could be as simple as removing the cupboard doors and letting them function as open shelving — consider painting or wallpapering the backs of the cupboards — or it could mean creating a whole new system of airy, open kitchen shelf storage.
