2024 Decorating Trends
- Bringing the Outside Inside
Breaking down the barriers between interior and exterior is a major trend that we expect to see ramping up this year. It's also a trend that can take many forms. One example is large open windows that let in lots of light and provide a view of exterior landscapes. Another aspect is embracing greener, natural materials and nature-inspired decor elements is another. Incorporating more and bigger houseplants into your decor is also a great way to get on board with this trend. - Home Offices Are Here to Stay
The pandemic redefined our relationship with working from home. And even though most of us don't have to work from home anymore, many still do, at least part of the time. Home offices, once considered a luxury and more recently a necessity, are becoming more desirable than ever. Homebuyers are insisting on having a dedicated home office, and the design and decor of that room is leaning toward efficiency and maximizing productivity. - Cozy is the New Spacious
Open floor plans and wide-open spaces reigned supreme for many years, but we're seeing a real shift toward spaces that feel more snug and cozy. Smaller, more intimate arrangements are taking center stage, perhaps because of the nostalgic vibes they create. - Classic Details, Modern Twist
We're already seeing classic, even "old-fashioned" details and design elements coming back into favor, and we expect that to be a major driving force in design trends in 2024. How classic? We're talking pleated upholstery details and Victorian moldings. But bringing in these elements from yesteryear should be balanced with modern functionality and atmosphere. Think of it as a blending of the ornate with the casual in a way that feels eclectic without being overpowering. - Paint Color Trends
What's the hot color of the year? We're calling it right now: brown is going to be big in 2024. Just as '90s grays and neutrals blew up last year, we're seeing a huge resurgence in warm, '70s-inspired earth tones. Light and dark shades of brown work well as statement colors, but anything warm and earthy should be considered in this year's color palette. Colors like terra cotta, beige, cognac and caramel are huge. Even in the world of neutral colors, crisp, cool whites are falling by the wayside in favor of warm, creamy whites. - Handmade and Artisanal
We seem to finally be getting sick of decor that feels homogenous and mass-produced. Artisanal decor that doesn't try to disguise the fact that it was made by human hands is back in style. Hand-carved wood, woven textiles, hand-blown glass and similar items have a place in every home in 2024, especially when used in contrast with cleaner lines and shapes.
