Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival, October 14 - 20
With more than 100,000 attendees, over 32,000 pre-scooped pumpkins and national recognition on HGTV's "Pumpkin Wars," the Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival is not your average jack-o-lantern festival.
In fact, the city of Highwood is ready to make pumpkin carving history by breaking the World Record for the most carved and lit jack-o-lanterns in one location. Everyone is welcome to be a part of the world record by contributing a carved creation into the winning total. Yet, the four-day festival has much more to offer than a national pumpkin-carving competition. Once again, the Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival will feature a parade, hayrides, vendors, pumpkin pie cooking/eating contests, the annual 5K Pumpkin Run & Kids' Dash, massive pumpkin displays and, of course, pumpkin carving and nightly lightings. This year will also include a pet costume contest and the St. Baldrick's Head Shaving event from 3 - 6 p.m. on Saturday followed by St. Baldrick's Pumpkin Run on Sunday. Whether you want to be a part of world-record breaking history or make a weekend out of fun, fall festivities, the Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival has something for everyone to enjoy. This is one of the best fall festivals that you won't want to miss and is conveniently located right outside the city of Chicago!
