August Is National Golf Month: Here’s Where to Hit the Links Around Chicagoland

Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course 

Situated right on the shores of Lake Michigan, this public 9-hole course offers challenging play and stunning waterfront scenery. Maintained by Chicago Park District Golf, the Marovitz has been thrilling golfers since 1932, offering rentals, instruction, and discounts for both junior and senior players, as well as a tasty cafe and lively clubhouse.  

Jackson Park Golf Course

This historic park was the first public golf course west of the Alleghenies and opened in 1899. It features 18 holes surrounded by gardens, a driving range, and serene wooded paths. Bring the family and enjoy a day admiring the scenery and perfecting your driving skills.

Diversey Driving Range & Mini Golf

If you’re looking for a fun and low-cost way to introduce yourself or your kids to the world of golf, this state-of-the-art experience is the way to go. Cog Hill Golf and Country Club

Cog Hill is also known for its driving range, two pro shops, a delicious bar and grill with plenty of outdoor seating, a clubhouse, and an elegant, Old World-style banquet hall available for weddings and private events. 

Chicago Golf Club

One of the five founding clubs of the United States Golf Association, the Chicago Golf Club has hosted multiple US Open events throughout its more than 120-year history. The original courses were designed by Charles Blair Macdonald, modeled after the hallowed Old Course in St. Andrew’s, Scotland, where the game of golf was invented. 

The Glen Club

This Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole course offers players a unique challenge as well as abundant natural features. Located in the North Shore community, this award-winning club is open to the public and offers a driving range, bustling clubhouse, hotel, and The Grill, where you can dive into tasty post-round plates like pasta, a Caprese portobello melt, or delicately broiled fish and risotto. 

Harborside International

Mistwood Golf Course

Bringing Scotland to the Midwest, Mistwood’s recently renovated courses invoke the awe and enthusiasm of every visitor. Cantigny Golf Club

Part golf course and part arboretum, Cantigny’s picturesque 27-hole course is divided into 3 sections, the Woodside, Lakeside, and Hillside. The Cantigny Golf Academy strives to provide golfers of all ages with comprehensive training and performance opportunities. The club also participates in the Frequent Fairways program, which links 9 Chicagoland public courses for rewards and exclusive golf experiences. 

Prairie Landing Golf Club

Hidden away like a precious gem in West Chicago, Prairie Landing is known as “the premier public golf facility in the region.” With links designed by Trent Jones, Jr., this treasure also offers an exquisite ballroom, reasonable rates for private events, and “meticulously maintained greens and fairways.” The 18-hole course also features a heady mix of natural beauty and fierce competition and is considered a healthy challenge for any level of golfer. Don’t miss the historic McChesney’s Pub & Grill, with a delightful menu of creative clubhouse favorites like Korean fried cauliflower, a gigantic beer-battered fish sandwich, and a mouth-watering chicken pot pie. 

Ravisloe Country Club

Designed by famed golf course architect Donald Ross, Ravisloe was established in 1901. The Spanish Mission-style clubhouse “evoked the splendor and elegance of the Gilded Age,” yet it shut down completely in late 2008. An acclaimed veterinary surgeon and sustainable living advocate, Dr. Claude Gendrau, then purchased the club to share this historic urban space with the greater public. RCC offers 18 devilishly difficult holes as well as its legendary bar and grill, Rossy’s Roost, where you can relax in comfort after some fierce play with hearty sandwiches, ice cold beverages, or a healthy salmon salad.
