Geneva is an affluent suburb located on the western fringe of the Chicago suburbs. The town’s scenic location along the Fox River, robust downtown shopping district and active historical society makes it a popular tourist destination.
Geneva was incorporated as a village in 1858, buts its location along the Fox River had long since created many economic opportunities for the area. Early on, goods like cheese, butter and packed meet were manufactured in Geneva and its connection to the railroad only increased demand.
Several historical sites can still be found in Geneva, including Fabyan Windmill, an authentic, working Dutch windmill dating back to the 1850s; Elizabeth Place, a residence once owned by a prominent local businessman that was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 and Riverbank Laboratories, a company that played an instrumental piece in World War I by decrypting the German and Mexican code.
Geneva has a station on the Union Pacific/West line of the METRA commuter rail system. The town is accessible by many major highways, including Interstate 88.

There are many festivals and events throughout the year that bring residents and tourists to the streets of Geneva. Some of the most popular include the Geneva Arts Fair, Midsommar Festival – Swedish Days, Festival of the Vine and the annual Christmas Walk & House Tour.
In addition to regular festivals, Geneva boasts several must-see local attractions. Carriage rides are a popular activity, as well as a nice stroll down the Geneva Art Gallery Walk and a visit to the Fabyan Villa Museum and Japanese Tea Garden.
Its diverse, historical atmosphere provides Geneva with a variety of entertainment options. For a cultural experience, the Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center features an exhibition gallery and a 1,000-seat theater. A wide range of artists and performances are found at the center throughout the year.
The sports fan can take in a Kane County Cougars baseball game, a professional minor league team affiliated with the Oakland Athletics. Games and events run from April through September.
The Fox Valley Ice Arena is one of the premier family ice sports complexes in the Chicagoland area, providing an NHL Rink and an International Rink. Residents can take ice skating lessons, join hockey leagues or just enjoy skating.

The Sunset Pool provides summer entertainment from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
In addition to outdoor activities, the park district also keeps a butterfly house at the Peck Farm Interpretive Center, a 385-acre natural retreat. The center also features a sensory garden, nature trails, an observation silo, 19 acres of wetlands, soccer fields and baseball diamonds.
