Huntley is a small village located 50 miles north west and roughly a one hour commute to downtown Chicago Loop and about 25 miles south of the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Huntley is also located about 40 miles east of Rockford, the second largest city in Illinois with over 150,000 residents.

Neighboring communities include Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, Lakewood, Gilberts, Hampshire, Marengo, Union, Pingree Grove, and Woodstock.

Huntley is located within both McHenry County and Kane County. The natural beauty near Huntley includes the Exner Marsh Nature Preserve which is a natural area of wetlands.

While the 2000 census counted 5,730 residents, another census conducted in 2008 measured the population of Huntley to have grown to 23,229.

Thomas Stillwell and Eliza Fox Huntley  arrived with their family to settle the area now known as Huntley in 1846 and purchase large parcels of land. In 1851, the Chicago and Galena Railroad constructed railroad lines through the area known then as Huntley Grove.

Residents in the area soon constructed a General Store as more settlers began to move to the Huntley area. The area remained an agricultural community until the 1980’s.

The 1980’s began a boom of new home construction and a more suburban style of living took over the area. Sun City also began to attract a community of retired adults to the area.

Huntley continues to grow in population and the town continues to attract new businesses and growing families to the community. A Metra Station has been rumored to planned to be built in the future.

Huntley homes for sale can range in price from $100,000 to $800,000 for modest single family residences. Many homes include unique farm and country inspired homes, newer constructed neoecletic homes, beautiful stone ranch houses, and many other beautiful homes on large lots of land.

The ranch style homes in the community offer two or more bedrooms, ten different model homes to choose from, and some homes with more than 2,000 square feet of space.


Parking in Huntley is easy and convenient for all residents. Many homes, condos, and apartment buildings provide private off street parking. Parking on city streets is prohibited from 2am to 6am, but special exceptions are made for overnight guests by calling the non-emergency police department phone number (847) 515-5311.

Huntley is a very car dependent village and does not provide public transportation like many suburban neighborhoods closer to Chicago. Although Pace Bus doesn’t offer any service routes in Huntley, Pace Bus Vanpool services are available to commuters in the Huntley area.

One of the nearest Metra stations includes the Crystal Lake Metra Station along the Union Pacific Northwest Line. The Metra station is about 10 miles and a 20 minute drive for Huntley residents, and the trains connect commuters to the downtown Chicago Oglivie Transportation Center.

The next nearest commuter train is the Elgin Metra station located at 10 miles southeast. The Milwaukee District West Line has three Metra stations in Elgin and connects to downtown Chicago Union Station.

Route 47 Taxi and AMC Taxi and Cab Service are two local cab companies that provide service to Huntley residents to popular destinations like O’Hare International Airport, downtown Chicago Loop, and other northwest Chicago suburbs and attractions.

While Huntley may be far outside the city and public transportation, the center of Huntley has a higher Walk Score. Downtown Huntley has a 62% walk score while the village averages 35%.


Both Huntley High School and Consolidated School District 158 report higher test score results than the state averages on the Prairie State Achievement Examination.

Parkside Pub is one of Huntley most popular bars and nightlife spot. As the host of the annual Huntley Turkey Testicle Festival, Parkside is always a fun places for dinner and drinks. Huntley Fall Fest is the annual festival for the whole family in Huntley. Probably one of the most unique fests in Huntley is the annual Huntley Turkey Testicle Festival. Hosted by Parkside Pub, the event is 21+ only, and there is a $10 cover charge that goes to local charities. The Huntley Park District maintains and organizes community fun and events in Huntley. Huntley Neighborhood Parks include over 15 playgrounds and community parks. Many parks include athletic fields, restrooms, picnic areas, walking trails, fishing, ice rinks, and Talamore Sports Complex.
