History

La Grange became a popular settling area in the 1830s among Chicago residents escaping the booming city. The village was founded in the 1870s by businessman Franklin Dwight Cossitt who looked to build the ideal suburban village. After the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, La Grange saw a large population increase from the thousands of residents looking to leave the city but still maintain an easy commute.

Real Estate

La Grange has a wonderful variety of housing stock. A few homes in town were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and much of the village’s early history is preserved in its many restored Victorian, Queen Anne, Vernacular and Prairie style homes. The La Grange area has also been complimented by many new construction homes built in the last several years.
