Over the years, Baird & Warner agents often have celebrated the most important day of their clients’ lives by giving a Baird & Warner-branded closing gift. One that really resonated was the Baird & Warner cookbook produced in the 1980s.
Filled with recipes for such
classics as fried chicken, apple pie, chili and Thanksgiving turkey — and of course, Jell-O molds — the cookbook also featured concoctions by celebrities of the era, including Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Paul Newman, and John Wayne.
Baird & Warner’s Palatine office also produced its own cookbook with recipes from agents with a cover that read, “A collection of special recipes from our family to yours.”
Inside, they even included a recipe for the making of a real estate company: “Sprinkle with encouragement, patience, honesty, and understanding. Add this to a large portion of work and dedication. To be served with a smile.”
Cooking has long been part of life at Baird & Warner. In the company’s quarterly newsletter, the “Real Starter,” a 1974 article featured photos of then-Board Chairman Warner G. Baird making peanut brittle after he’d asked retiring accounting employee Opal Pool for her beloved recipe.
