Baird & Warner just celebrated its 166th year in business serving buyers and sellers around Chicagoland. So, we wanted to honor our history by taking you back to the very beginning.
Our firm was founded in 1855 as a commercial mortgage company. Today, Baird & Warner is known as one of the oldest family owned and operated U.S. real estate company offering residential brokerage, mortgage and title services.
Throughout the decades, we’ve seen a lot of competitors come and go, while we’ve emerged stronger – surviving the Great Chicago Fire, two World Wars, recessions and the Great Depression. In fact, because of our ledgers and documents that remained unscathed after the fire, the city was able to rebuild. Baird & Warner was there at the beginning – and every step of the way during Chicago’s growth.
Baird & Warner also helped expand public transportation options for Chicagoans to support the growth of neighborhoods. A big reason for the growth was the construction of more train lines and the city stations on train lines that Baird & Warner helped develop. Baird & Warner also was instrumental in building co-ops in the city and suburban subdivisions.
And as the industry and Chicago changed and transformed, so did Baird & Warner by shifting its focus as the market demanded. From serving as apartment property manager in the 1930s to building shopping centers in the 1950s, we’ve touched every aspect of real estate in our 166 years.
