As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our communities, Good Will Works is providing ongoing financial support to three local organizations that are on the front lines of serving our communities in the areas of financial empowerment, fair housing, and racial equity — and getting our people engaged in those partnerships is just as important to us as the grants themselves.
That’s why last week we had a special lunch-and-learn session with Spanish Coalition for Housing (SCH), our partner focusing on the Financial Empowerment part of our mission. Joseph Lopez from Spanish Coalition for Housing joined us over Zoom for a chat with Lucy Baird and the rest of the company to tell us how the organization helps people achieve successful homeownership, why their Financial Empowerment Education and Home Buyer Education programs are so important, and how as real estate professionals, we can look to the organization as a resource to help even more clients achieve their dream of homeownership.
As the largest Dept. Housing and Urban Development certified bilingual Housing Counseling Organizations in the Midwest, SPC serves over 10,000 clients each year through its comprehensive Housing and Financial Education and counseling programs. Essentially, As HUD-approved housing counselors, they advise clients to help them prevent foreclosure, buy a home, protect their credit, and other issues that prevent them from long lasting homeownership.

This is the first in our Lunch | Engage | Empower series — ongoing conversations over the next four months with our Good Will Works grant recipients to better understand how we can support our communities now and in the future. We’ll be interviewing leaders from Spanish Coalition for Housing, YWCA and our fair housing partner to hear about their work, how and why they do it, and ways we can help them continue their important work.
