The running season is upon us, and there are dozens of fun events to get you going. Whether you’re truly looking for a fitness-friendly celebration or just want to hit the town and party, here are a few of Chicago’s most popular fun runs happening this spring.
The Glo Run
Friday, May 3, 8:15 p.m.
This unique event is a glow-in-the-dark 5K run/walk that travels all over the country. Participants receive a neon shirt and ‘GloGear’ to help them blend into the race’s surroundings. A party and costume contest will follow the run.
Cinco De Miler
Sunday, May 4, 2014, 9:30 a.m.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by coming out to Montrose Harbor for Chicago’s only five mile race. The event itself starts early, leaving plenty of time to celebrate after the race with great food and drink. Invite family and friends to join for post-race live music.
Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field 10 Mile
Saturday, May 24, 7 a.m.
The 11th annual event promises that this year’s finish on the Soldier Field 50-yard line will be the most memorable to date. Runners will receive a t-shirt, medal, free parking and access to a post-race tailgate held on the Stadium Green, featuring live music and giveaways.
Saturday, June 7, 8 a.m.
This 5K promises to help you gain back all of the calories you may burn while running. After the race, participants will be provided with unlimited bacon and a Bloody Mary to celebrate.
The Color Run
Sunday, June 8, 2014, 8 a.m.
The Color Run is one of the most popular race events and now occurs in more than 30 countries around the world. Runners are instructed to wear all white and are doused in different colors at each kilometer of the race. Sign up early as the race fills up quickly!
