It may be a bit chillier out there, but now is the time to dig in to all of those fun fall activities. Nothing says Halloween like rustling leaves, apple picking, pumpkin carving and costume fun. Here are some family-friendly Halloween festivals in the Chicagoland area that will get you in the autumnal spirit:

Spooky Zoo Spectacular at Lincoln Park Zoo is a fun way for kids to celebrate Halloween in an exciting, family-friendly environment. The Halloween extravaganza is held on October 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids get to dress up in Halloween costumes while making crafts, trick-or-treating, and enjoying entertainment throughout the zoo. The day’s events also include a haunted house, “Spooky Glee” music entertainment and toddler activities in the Regenstein Center for African Apes. The Spooky Zoo Spectacular is an event you won’t want to miss with so many Halloween festivities and at no cost. Just make sure you save some time to visit the zoo’s inhabitants!

Goebberts Farm’s Fall Festival in Barrington kicks off on October 21 and runs through Halloween. This family favorite has every bit of Halloween fun you can think of. From pumpkin patches to a petting zoo and corn mazes, there is an entire day’s worth of lively activity. To get the lay of the land, start off your day on the Goebbert’s Pumpkin Express, a half-mile tour through the farm and surrounding area. Take a stroll over to the haunted house and make sure to stock up on your Halloween goodies at the local store. Be sure to get a good spot at the pig races, and don’t miss the pumpkin eating dinosaur! Admission is free and so are many of the attractions.

HallowFest in the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe is full of spooky and fun activities for you and the family. The two-night festival is held this year on October 26 and 27. It includes plenty of Halloween festivities with face-painting fun, a carved pumpkin gallery, “Mysterious Magic” with Dracula, a live show of creepy crawlers and a 15-minute Howlin’ Express ride around the garden. Due to the popularity of the event, it is encouraged to buy tickets fast and early! Tickets purchased in advance (or before October 25) cost $14 for members and $19 for nonmembers.

These Halloween activities are sure to create unforgettable fall memories for you and your family.
