Located just 13 miles west of Chicago, the village of La Grange is a fun and family-oriented community. With a wide array of dining, shopping and entertainment located in a vivacious downtown area, La Grange offers the best of both suburban and urban living.

History Top

La Grange became a popular settling area in the 1830s among Chicago residents escaping the booming city. The village was founded in the 1870s by businessman Franklin Dwight Cossitt who looked to build the ideal suburban village. After the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, La Grange saw a large population increase from the thousands of residents looking to leave the city but still maintain an easy commute.


Real Estate Top

La Grange has a wonderful variety of housing stock. A few homes in town were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and much of the village's early history is preserved in its many restored Victorian, Queen Anne, Vernacular and Prairie style homes. The La Grange area has also been complimented by many new construction homes built in the last several years.


Transportation Top

There are two METRA train stations in La Grange, offering service between the southwest suburbs from Aurora to Chicago.

La Grange is just minutes from I-290, I-55 and I-294 with more than 1,000 parking spaces convenient for commuters and shoppers. The town is also served by the METRA.

Home to more than 600 businesses, LaGrange enjoys a vibrant downtown business district made up of more than 300 shops. In addition to shopping and restaurants, visitors can enjoy a movie at the village old-fashioned movie theater.

Festivals/Parks Top

LaGrange is also famous for its many community events sponsored by the LaGrange Business Association, including art fairs, carnivals and farmer’s markets.

The LaGrange Pet Parade is a summer event that features the annual pet parade and family carnival.

Rocktoberfest is the town’s own Oktoberfest celebration. An event for children and adults, visitors can see a number of rock bands and enjoy Oktoberfest food and drink.

Businesses open their doors and the town erupts in seasonal events during the annual LaGrange “Hometown Holiday” Holiday Walk.
