Chicago, Ill. – June 18, 2015 – Baird & Warner today announced the launch of its proprietary virtual learning center, the B&W Online Institute. The new system contains more than 200 sales and video courses taught by Baird & Warner managing brokers and national industry experts for broker associates at every level in their career.

“Our advanced training program has always been regarded as the benchmark, and given us a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The B&W Online Institute builds on this foundation to empower our broker associates to take their business to the next level,” said Laura Ellis, president of residential sales and executive vice president of Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest, locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “From negotiation skills and social media to ways to utilize the latest technology tools, our new virtual learning center was designed to help our broker associates stay at the forefront of the industry.”

Baird & Warner’s in-house team partnered with Leading Real Estate Companies of the WorldⓇ (LeadingRE) to create this online education platform. Broker associates can access programs on sales, marketing, technology and relocation, and follow self-guided curriculums to completion. New content will be added each month, and each course is 15 minutes or less.

Baird & Warner and LeadingRE certifications are granted to users who successfully complete a comprehensive series of courses, and include LeadingRE Sales Specialist (LSS), LeadingRE Service Expert (LSE) and LeadingRE Certified Leader (LCL).

Top Southwest Suburban Broker to Lead Sales Team

Chicago, Ill. – April 14, 2015 – Baird & Warner today announced that Nick Garcia has been named managing broker of the company’s Frankfort location. Previously a top selling broker associate in the southwest suburban markets, Garcia will head the Frankfort sales team, as well as manage the day-to-day operations of the office.

“Our Frankfort office has been growing by leaps and bounds, and I’m so excited for Nick to be empowered to take it to the next level,” said Laura Ellis, president of residential sales and executive vice president of Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest, locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “In his new role, Nick will leverage his experience as a top producing broker in the southwest suburbs as well as his passion for training and coaching to guide his sales team towards achieving their professional goals.”

Garcia joined Baird & Warner from Century 21 Pride and Coldwell Banker before that, where he served the Mokena, Frankfort, New Lenox, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Homer Glen, Lockport, Palos Heights and Palos Park communities. Garcia closed 35 units in 2014, and produced more than $7 million in volume in 2013. He was one of the Top 10 broker associates at Coldwell Banker from 2010 to 2013, earning him a place in the International Diamond Society. Garcia was also named a Chicago Five Star Real Estate Agent by Chicago magazine.

Leading Real Estate Brokerage Owned by Same Family for Five Generations

Chicago, Ill. – March 30, 2015 – Baird & Warner kicked off its 160th year in business on March 28, 2015. Founded in 1855, Baird & Warner has been a family-owned company for five generations under the same name. Today, it is Chicagoland's largest, locally owned independent residential real estate services company, and the first real estate brokerage in the country. 

“The history of Baird & Warner is so closely tied to the history of the Chicagoland area that we really see the people of this great region as our neighbors,” said Steve Baird, president and CEO of Baird & Warner, whose great-great-grandfather founded the company. “We are so fortunate to have hit this milestone, and I am committed now more than ever to maintaining my family’s legacy of remaining fiercely independent and continuing to actively support the hundreds of local communities we serve.”

While Baird & Warner may have existed before March 28, 1855, this is the date of the first transaction -- a  $5,000 loan to Edward Casey & Brothers for a property located on Washington Street, between Franklin and Market. At that time, the company’s headquarters were located at 90 LaSalle Street, prior to the Great Chicago Fire. Today, Baird & Warner’s home office is located at 120 S. LaSalle Street.

Baird & Warner opened its first residential real estate office in the Uptown neighborhood in 1897, and has continued to establish itself in communities throughout the Chicagoland area. Of the 25 offices the brokerage operates today, the majority have been in business for more than 30 years, and many for even longer. The Evanston sales office opened its doors on June 1, 1923.

New Role Prompted by 500 New Agents Recruited in 2014
 

Baird & Warner hired nearly 500 new broker associates in 2014, prompting the creation of a position dedicated to training new agents. Sarah Pelton, former managing broker of the Baird & Warner Glen Ellyn sales office, has been named the firm’s new director of professional development.

“We had a banner year for recruiting in 2014, and now we want each and every one of those agents who joined us to thrive as successful real estate professionals,” said Laura Ellis, president of residential sales and executive vice president of Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest, locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “Sarah combines her experience as a broker associate and a managing broker with her fresh style and dedication to give each of our agents the top notch training that will help them build a successful business.”

Pelton began her real estate career as a broker associate in the Baird & Warner Oak Park/River Forest office. She was a top producer in the market and was named to the brokerage’s President’s Club. Pelton became the assistant manager of the Oak Park/River Forest office in 2008, and later became a lead sales trainer for the Baird & Warner Career Institute.

Baird & Warner Names New Vice President of Sales
New Role Increases Office Support and Training

Baird & Warner has named Tripti Kasal its new vice president of sales. Kasal will focus on increasing business for the company, as well as recruiting and manager development. She will also work closely with the branch managers to grow Baird & Warner’s presence in each market.

“Our emphasis has always been on quality over quantity, and with the incredible growth we’ve experienced over the last few years, we are ramping up our efforts to ensure each and every agent and office gets the support they need to be successful,” said Laura Ellis, president of residential sales and executive vice president of Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest, locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “Tripti is a well-known, experienced real estate professional who will bring great value and expertise to this position.”

Baird & Warner experienced a record year in 2014. The company hired 500 new brokers and added Plainfield, Hinsdale and Carpentersville offices to its roster, expanding to 25 branches located throughout Chicagoland. Baird & Warner also achieved more than $5 billion in sales, a first since 2007, and more than 25,000 written transactions, an all-time record.

Kasal joined Baird & Warner in March 2014 as the director of sales development. In this role, Kasal focused on training and mentoring broker associates, and she led the company’s Career Institute training class. Prior to joining Baird & Warner, Kasal was the executive vice president of brokerage operations at Jameson Real Estate where she managed more than 300 brokers and 25 support staff in three offices. 

Kasal founded Real Living Infinity/Helios in 2005, growing the company to 75 agents in five years and later selling it to Jameson Real Estate in 2010. She has held numerous senior management roles in top Chicagoland real estate brokerages for more than 20 years.

Former Assistant Manager and West Suburban Broker to Lead Sales Team

Chicago, Ill. – Feb. 9, 2015 – Baird & Warner announced that Bill White, Jr. has been named managing broker of the company’s Glen Ellyn location. Previously the assistant manager of Baird & Warner’s Frankfort and Orland Park branches, White will head the Glen Ellyn sales team, as well as manage the day-to-day functions of the office.

“Our Glen Ellyn office has been serving the real estate needs of the local community since 1941, so it was important to us that the new manager has roots in Glen Ellyn,” said Laura Ellis, president of residential sales and executive vice president of Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest, locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “Bill is a top sales professional, a Baird & Warner Leadership Institute graduate and a fantastic assistant manager -- we couldn’t have asked for a better candidate!” 

White began his real estate career as a broker, covering the western suburbs. During his more than 10 years as a successful agent, he was named a top producer and a “Reader’s Favorite” by Naperville Magazine, as well as a top 20 producer in DuPage county by Chicago Agent magazine. He came to Baird & Warner as a sales support manager but was quickly promoted to assistant manager of the Frankfort and Orland Park offices.

Dan Moran Named Vice President of Sales

Chicago, Ill. – Jan. 6, 2015 – Key Mortgage Services, Inc. announced today that Dan Moran, a nationally recognized mortgage professional, has joined the company as vice president of sales. Previously a regional manager for Guaranteed Rate, Moran was named one of the 100 Most Influential Mortgage Executives by Mortgage Executive Magazine in 2013 and 2014.

“Dan’s track record for outstanding sales and exceptional customer service is well known in our industry. Ellis joined Baird & Warner in 1998 as sales manager of the Bolingbrook office. During her eight years as manager, the office consistently broke records in production, recruiting, mortgage and title. Long-Time Baird & Warner Agent and Manager Moves Offices

Chicago, Ill. – December 23, 2014 – Baird & Warner announced that David Bailey has been named managing broker of the company’s Lincoln Park sales office. Previously the managing broker of Baird & Warner’s Evanston office, Bailey will head the Lincoln Park sales team, as well as manage the day-to-day functions of the office.   

“David is a fantastic leader, so it was only natural that he should take on the managing broker position at Lincoln Park,” said Laura Ellis, president of residential sales and executive vice president at Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest, locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “In his new role, David will build on the team’s already solid foundation to make it a top office in Chicago.”

Bailey began his real estate career at one of Baird & Warner’s city offices more than 10 years ago where he quickly established himself as a top producing broker associate. After graduating from Baird & Warner’s Leadership Institute, Bailey served as assistant manager at three of the brokerage’s city offices before becoming the manager of the Evanston office. During his time there, the Evanston office saw significant growth in both the number of broker associates and in sales volume.

Industry Veteran Jo Lay to Expand Brokerage’s Global Reach

Lay joins Baird & Warner from Coldwell Banker where she was the relocation director for the Chicago and Milwaukee markets. Prior to that, Lay was the regional vice president of Coldwell Banker Relocation Services for the central region, covering Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Columbus, Cincinnati and St. Louis.

Chicago, Ill. – November 14, 2014 – Baird & Warner has been named the No. 1 workplace in Chicagoland by the Chicago Tribune, receiving its third consecutive Top Workplace award. Baird & Warner was awarded its first Top Workplace award in 2012 and was named the No. 3 best place to work in Chicagoland. In 2013, the brokerage ranked No. 2.

Baird & Warner to Provide Large Grants to Chicago Area Nonprofits
Baird & Warner Good Will Network Provides Ongoing Assistance to the Local Community

Chicago, Ill. – November 7, 2014 – The Baird & Warner Good Will Network has selected five Chicagoland nonprofits to each receive a $10,000 grant, bringing the total donation to $50,000. These organizations were chosen based on submissions by Baird & Warner broker associates and employees, then voted on in a companywide poll.

“Baird & Warner has called Chicagoland home for almost 160 years, and it is our responsibility to help our neighbors in need,” said Jennifer Alter Warden, president of Residential Sales at Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest locally-owned independent residential real estate services company. “There are so many nonprofits in need of funds to continue their good work, and we’re fortunate enough to be in a position to provide assistance.”

The Baird & Warner Good Will Network, the company’s corporate giving program, put out a call for submissions this past summer, requesting nonprofits that provide shelter, ideally with a focus on women and children. The five charities that were selected are Deborah's Place, PADS of Lake County, Children's Home + Aid, Crisis Center for South Suburbia and Marklund.

At the end of 2013, the Baird & Warner Good Will Network donated $50,000 to five nonprofits that were also chosen through a companywide vote. Of the total $50,000 donation, $15,000 went to Ronald McDonald House, $10,000 was given to A Safe Place, Connections for the Homeless and West Suburban PADS and $5,000 was given to Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter.

In total, the Baird & Warner Good Will Network has contributed almost $2 million to a variety of nonprofit organizations since its inception in 2002.

Catherine Leonard to Head the Evanston Area Sales Team

Chicago, Ill. – November 5, 2014 – Catherine Leonard, a top producing real estate broker in Chicago’s North Shore, has been named the new managing broker of Baird & Warner’s Evanston sales office. In this role, Leonard will have responsibility for providing sales training and mentorship to the current team of broker associates, while also leading recruiting efforts to support future growth.

Prior to working in the real estate industry, Leonard was vice president and account supervisor at Young & Rubicam, then New York City’s largest privately held advertising firm.

Patrick S. Glynn to Expand Top Real Estate Brokerage’s Corporate Relocation Program

Chicago, Ill. – October 20, 2014 – Patrick S. Glynn, relocation industry veteran, has been named Baird & Warner’s new vice president of corporate services. In his new role, Glynn will lead the brokerage’s third-party relocation business relationships, working with local, national and international companies to provide products and services for their mobile employees.

Prior to that, he served as vice president of marketing at an Arizona relocation firm.

Glynn has been involved with numerous committees and groups within the employee relocation industry throughout his career. He is a past vice president and member of the board of directors of the Chicago Corporate Relocation Council. Glynn is a recipient of the Worldwide Employee Relocation Council (ERC) Meritorious Service Award and holds both the Certified Relocation Professional (CRP) and Senior Global Mobility Specialist (SGMS) designations as awarded by Worldwide ERC.

Baird & Warner Mobility Hub Launches in Hinsdale, Ill.

Chicago, Ill. – June 26, 2014 – Baird & Warner has introduced a new real estate concept based on providing its broker associates with the resources to conduct their business on their mobile device, while offering a specially designed office space for client meetings. Called the Baird & Warner Mobility Hub, this office concept launched today in Hinsdale.

Broker associates affiliated with the Baird & Warner Mobility Hub in Hinsdale will use a variety of web- and cloud-based platforms to access important websites using single sign-on technology. Contracts, documents and signed paperwork will be available remotely through Baird & Warner’s agreement with DocSign Transaction Rooms.

Baird & Warner turns 159 years old today, marking a long history of experience, innovation and integrity with countless advancements in the real estate industry. Within the past year alone we launched our first mobile application; became the first major brokerage to implement digital transaction management; and won the award for best brokerage website.

Here are just a few of the many innovations Baird & Warner has implemented throughout the years:

Baird & Warner launched property marketing when it produced the “Portfolio of Fine Apartment Homes” in 1928. This lavishly illustrated catalog of Chicago apartments was the first of its kind.

In 1964, Baird & Warner established the Real Estate Service for Employee Transfers, or RESET. This was the very first relocation program in the nation. This service was offered to large companies to ease the problems associated with the relocation of employees in and out of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Baird & Warner was a pioneer in the rebirth of the South Loop as a residential enclave in the 1970s. Long unused space was remade into apartments and condos, bringing historic Printer’s Row back to life.

Steve Baird initiated and signed a landmark fair housing agreement in 1995, the first of its kind between a real estate company and a fair housing organization. This continues to serve as a model at both the local and national levels.

The Baird & Warner Sunday Morning Home Show was an early effort at multimedia marketing and used exclusively by Baird & Warner. The show ran for 14 years through the late ‘90s, providing narrated visual tours through select homes and then offering in-person open house tours after the show.

Tripti Kasal Brings More Than 20 Years of Chicagoland Real Estate Experience

Chicago, Ill. – March 11, 2014 – Baird & Warner has named real estate industry veteran Tripti Kasal to director of sales development. In this new role, Kasal will primarily focus on training and mentoring broker associates, and will also lead the company’s Career Institute training classes.

New-to-Market App Features Multiple Search Functions, Connection to Preferred Broker

Chicago, Ill. – March 3, 2014 – Baird & Warner has launched a new mobile application that works with a mobile device’s GPS to provide the most up-to-date listings, open houses and recent price reductions based on the user’s current location. The application is available for free download in both the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.

“There are so many innovative features on this application that are completely unique to the Chicagoland market,” said Steve Baird, president and CEO of Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest independent residential real estate services company. “The Baird & Warner mobile app is the latest step in our continued effort to make the home search process as easy and convenient as possible for today’s buyers.”

Through a variety of mobile search functions, buyers can customize their experience. Both the Journey Search and Perimeter Search options allow users to search properties near them using the GPS on their mobile device, while the Scope Search uses the GPS and camera on the device for a more visual experience.

Users are not required to create an account to use the mobile app, and they are able to log in to and sync with their BairdWarner.com My Real Estate Portal account. Through this feature, they can save search options and ‘favorite’ properties. Users can also contact their broker associate directly through the application.

John W. Baird Dies at 98

May 8, 1915 - December 27, 2013

Chicago, Ill. - John W. Baird, prominent Chicago real estate developer and champion of fair housing, open space and historic preservation, died on December 27 in a Glenview hospice after suffering a stroke eight days earlier. He was 98.

Mr. Baird was known for his understated style and dedication to causes that often seemed at odds with his personal financial interests—prompting the architect Laurence O. Booth, with whom he worked on many projects, to deem him “the ultimate American, the Gary Cooper of real estate."

A native of Evanston and longtime resident of Winnetka, Mr. Baird received a degree in history with distinction from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, in 1938 and a master’s degree in business from Harvard University in 1940 before serving as an Army captain during World War II.

After the war, he joined Baird & Warner, the venerable Chicago real estate company founded in 1855 and owned by his family since 1860. In 1963, he succeeded his father, Warner G. Baird, as president of Baird & Warner and moved aggressively to open sales offices throughout the city and suburbs and expand the company’s commercial mortgage operation.

Mr. Baird served as president of the company until 1991, when he was succeeded by his son, Stephen W. Baird, the fifth-generation member of the family to lead the company. Until shortly before his death, Mr. Baird served as chairman of the board of Baird & Warner, which currently operates 23 brokerage offices with sales of more than $5 billion annually in northern Illinois as well as mortgage and title units.

Beginning in the 1960s, Mr. Baird led efforts to end housing discrimination in Chicago. As president of the Metropolitan Housing and Planning Council, in 1962 he became something of a pariah to fellow members of the Chicago Real Estate Board by appearing before the Chicago City Council and calling for enactment of an open-housing ordinance.

The ordinance, which passed after a heated debate in 1963, ostensibly barred discrimination in real estate sales “against any person because of his race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry”—a promise that would long remain unfulfilled—in the face of industry policies that perpetuated de facto discrimination against blacks, Hispanics, Jews and other minorities.

In 1965, Mr. Baird resigned from the Real Estate Board, which his family had helped start, in protest of its discriminatory policies. In later years, after open housing had become the law of the land, he insisted that it had not been a particularly intrepid thing that he’d done but, simply, “the right thing.”

During the 1960s and 1970s, Mr. Baird was instrumental in several groundbreaking urban revitalization projects, including Willow-Dayton in Lincoln Park; Campus Green on the Near West Side; South Commons near the Illinois Institute of Technology; and other projects in Oakland and Lawndale. He also was instrumental in the redevelopment of Printers Row, including the city’s first loft conversion—that of the 22-story Transportation Building at 600 S. Dearborn St. into 300 apartments.

Mr. Baird was active in civic affairs from the 1950s into the early years of the second decade of the 21st century. He was a member and one of the first presidents of the Metropolitan Housing and Planning Council (now the Metropolitan Planning Council) from 1953 until his death. From 1961 to 1973, he served first as a commissioner and then as president of the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission.

As a longtime board member of the Trust for Public Land, he was instrumental in the Trust’s first Chicago land-conservation project—Senka Park on 13 acres of former Grand Truck and Western R.R. land on the city’s Southwest Side—and later the development of Ping Tom Park on the Chicago River in Chinatown, and, most recently, the Bloomingdale Trail, the centerpiece of The 606. He served on the Commission on Chicago Historical and Architectural Landmarks for 40 years—until May 2013, when he was designated Commissioner Emeritus and the John Baird Award for Stewardship in Historic Preservation was created in his honor.

Mr. Baird also served in various capacities with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and in 1996 he co-founded NeighborSpace, a nonprofit urban land trust dedicated to helping community groups maintain gardens.

In November 2013, Mr. Baird was honored by the Chicago Architecture Foundation for “his outstanding contributions to Chicago’s built environment.” At the presentation, Alicia Berg, who had worked with him for many years on preservation efforts, said, “Project by project, he has transformed the city we all love—and in the process, he has been instrumental in making this one of the most livable big cities in the world . . .  There’s not a city on earth that wouldn’t have benefited from having John Baird as a resident.”

At various times during his career, he served as a director of Carson Pirie Scott & Co., the Harris Bank, Chicago Title & Trust Co., and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

An avid athlete, Mr. Baird owned a home in Aspen, Colorado, where he skied until he was 94. He also enjoyed hiking and played tennis well into his 90s.

Mr. Baird was well known for his generosity. Beneficiaries of his philanthropy included Protestants for the Common Good, which he co-founded; various conservation and preservation initiatives and programs designed to alleviate homelessness; and Wesleyan University, his alma mater, from which he received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1992 after serving many years as a trustee. He also established the Baird Family Endowment for the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University School of Law.

Mr. Baird’s wife of 65 years, the former Marian Wood, a nationally ranked tennis player, preceded him in death in 2007, at age 91. In addition to his son, Stephen, Mr. Baird is survived by two other sons: Wyllys Baird of Chicago and Orrin Baird of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Katharine Mann of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be private, but a public memorial is being planned.

Top Real Estate Services Company Set to Surpass $2 Million in Community Grants

Chicago, Ill. – December 20, 2013 –  The Baird & Warner Good Will Network has donated more than $50,000 to Chicagoland charities this month, bringing the organization’s total 2013 grants to almost $150,000 and total grants to almost $2 million. The nonprofits chosen to receive monetary gifts were submitted by Baird & Warner brokers and employees, then voted on by the entire company.

Of the more than $50,000 donation, $15,000 went to Hephzibah, $10,000 went to Almost Home Kids, and $8,500 went to Naperville Responds for our Veterans, House of the Good Shepherd and SOS Children’s Villages of Illinois.

“We have done incredible work through the Baird & Warner Good Will Network this year, and I’m immensely proud of our broker associates and employees for being so dedicated to helping their local communities,” said Jennifer Alter Warden, president of residential sales for Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest locally owned, independent residential real estate services company.

Earlier this year, the Baird & Warner Good Will Network donated $22,000 to Save the Children to assist in the relief efforts after Hurricane Sandy. The organization also gifted a total of $50,000 to five Chicago-area nonprofits chosen from a list of charities the Baird & Warner branch offices support throughout the year. Both of these grants were in addition to the almost $45,000 in donations from the local Baird & Warner branch offices.

The Baird & Warner Good Will Network seeks to provide support to local nonprofit organizations, with a focus on shelter and homelessness particularly for families and children. It is administered through the Good Will Network Fund held at the Chicago Community Trust.

Top Real Estate Company Signs Breakthrough Deal with DocuSign on New Platform

Chicago, Ill. – November 7, 2013 – Baird & Warner has signed an agreement with industry leader DocuSign to become the first major real estate services company to provide all of its broker associates with “pro” level digital transaction management by year-end.

The new tool is a cloud-based program that is accessible from any computer or mobile device, and combines DocuSign eSignature and Cartavi Transaction Room into one account. From this account, broker associates can utilize e-signature technology, as well as manage and share documents with clients, loan officers, attorneys and other involved parties in a completely secure environment.

“We are excited to provide all of our broker associates with a secure, digital and mobile way to collaborate on every aspect of their transactions from anywhere. They will be able to work more efficiently, and ultimately deliver a higher level of service to our clients,” said Jennifer Alter Warden, president of residential sales at Baird & Warner, Chicagoland’s largest locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “This partnership demonstrates our continued investment in the latest and most innovative technology.”

DocuSign announced its digital collaboration and e-signature tool at the National Association of REALTORS® Conference & Expo in San Francisco today. The technology was developed through DocuSign’s acquisition of Cartavi earlier this year. Baird & Warner broker associates will receive a “pro” version of the bundled real estate transaction management platform in December.

Top Local Real Estate Services Company Surpasses $1.5 Million in Community Grants

Chicago, Ill. – October 7, 2013 – The Baird & Warner Good Will Network donated $50,000 to Chicagoland charities this month. This grant is in addition to a nearly $60,000 contribution that the real estate services company made earlier this year to a number of other Chicago area nonprofit organizations, bringing its total Good Will Network donations to more than $1.5 million.

“Our sense of community and local responsibility has been a core value for Baird & Warner all the way back to our founding in 1855,” said Jennifer Alter Warden, president of residential sales at Baird & Warner, Chicagoland's largest locally owned independent residential real estate services company. “The fact that our broker associates and staff are extremely busy and still make it a priority to contribute time and money to support their neighbors speaks volumes for the level of integrity within our company. We are deeply committed to giving back to the communities that have made us successful.”

Of the total $50,000 donation, $15,000 went to Ronald McDonald House, $10,000 was given to A Safe Place, Connections for the Homeless and West Suburban PADS, and $5,000 was given to Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter. These five grant recipients were chosen out of more than 20 nonprofits that Baird & Warner branch offices have supported in the past year.

At the end of 2012, the Baird & Warner Good Will Network donated $25,000 to a joint effort between the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Northern Illinois Food Bank, $10,000 to both the CARA Program and La Casa Norte, $5,000 to Genesis House, as well as a variety of smaller amounts to charities all over Chicagoland.

The tool, called Market Insight, uses the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) to create interactive reports that provide statistics such as sold homes, properties for sale, inventory levels and days on market.

Market Insight is available under My Real Estate Portal on BairdWarner.com. To start receiving Market Insight information, the user will select a starting point and then choose a search field anywhere within a quarter mile perimeter to a 10-mile area centered around that point. Once the user has selected their preferred area, they can choose to receive emails that provide all of the real estate transactions and details specific to that selection.

BairdWarner.com users can also sign up for Exclusive Preview, an email alert that lets potential homebuyers know about new properties that meet their search criteria up to 72 hours before they are listed publicly, and Baird & Warner HomeFinder, an automated daily email that provides a list of all properties on the market that fit their specifications.

Two of the four radio spots will focus on the favorable market conditions for homebuyers and sellers, and the other two will target listeners who may be interested in a career in real estate.

Midyear Numbers Reflect Market Recovery and Operational Performance


Chicago, Ill. – September 16, 2013 – Baird & Warner has surpassed $3.5 billion in sales as of July 2013, a level of business the residential brokerage hasn’t seen since 2007. Baird & Warner also announced that the company has closed nearly 14,000 transactions and taken over 9,000 listings, more than any other independent real estate brokerage in Chicagoland.

“This has been a year of achievement, not only for Baird & Warner but also for the entire Chicago area real estate market,” said Steve Baird, president and CEO of Baird & Warner. “It is a reflection of the outstanding job that our broker associates and staff have done in servicing our clients’ needs. I’m extremely optimistic about the rest of the year, as well as 2014.”

In another indication of market recovery, since the beginning of 2013, nearly 300 REALTORS® have joined Baird & Warner — 58 percent more than last year. “It is particularly exciting to see so many of the new real estate professionals select Baird & Warner as the brokerage of choice,” said Steve Baird.

The brokerage also noted strong performance in its title insurance and finance businesses, with Key Mortgage Services, a top Illinois mortgage company, set to close its most successful year since its inception.

Baird & Warner recorded its first transaction on March 28, 1855, and we’re still going strong 158 years later. From Lyman Baird to Steve Baird, the spirit of innovation has been strong throughout the company’s history.

While you’re familiar with our latest advancements, here are five important points in our history where we’ve led the real estate industry:

  • Baird & Warner launched property marketing when it produced the “Portfolio of Fine Apartment Homes” in 1928. This lavishly illustrated catalog of Chicago apartments was the first of its kind.
     
  • In 1964, Baird & Warner established the Real Estate Service for Employee Transfers, or RESET. This was the very first relocation program in the nation. This service was offered to large companies to ease the problems associated with the relocation of employees in and out of the Chicago metropolitan area.
     
  • Baird & Warner was a pioneer in the rebirth of the South Loop as a residential enclave in the 1970s. Long unused space was remade into apartments and condos, bringing historic Printer’s Row back to life.
     
  • Steve Baird initiated and signed a landmark fair housing agreement in 1995, the first of its kind between a real estate company and a fair housing organization. This continues to serve as a model at both the local and national levels.
     
  • The Baird & Warner Sunday Morning Home Show was an early effort at multimedia marketing and used exclusively by Baird & Warner. The show ran for 14 years through the late ‘90s, providing narrated visual tours through select homes and then offering in-person open house tours after the show.

Baird & Warner Donates $22,000 to Save the Children Superstorm Sandy Relief
Brokers and Employees Show an Outpouring of Support

Chicago, Ill. – February 20, 2013 – The Baird & Warner Good Will Network announced today that it has raised $22,000 for the Save the Children Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. The grant was financed by contributions from Baird & Warner brokers, staff and the company.

“When reports of the devastation from Superstorm Sandy came in, our brokers and employees made it clear that they wanted to do something to help,” said Jennifer Alter Warden, president of residential sales at Baird & Warner. “Even though we’re a Chicago-based company, we want to lend our support wherever we can. This, in addition to our $50,000 worth of donations to local nonprofits last month, is a testament to our broker associates’ and employees’ commitment to help those in need.”

Baird & Warner selected Save the Children for this donation because of its mission to continue to help those affected by Superstorm Sandy. While the victims are no longer front page news, Save the Children continues to add much-needed support to hard-hit families. In addition to providing basic nutrition, education, clothing and hygiene supplies, Save the Children builds Child Friendly Spaces in shelters. These special areas allow children to play, socialize and begin to recover from the trauma. Children are protected from harm and provided with a sense of normalcy and community.

Save the Children’s efforts coincide with the Baird & Warner Good Will Network’s mission to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations with a focus on shelter and homelessness, particularly for families and children. Through the Good Will Network Fund, held at the Chicago Community Trust, Baird & Warner collects funds throughout the year to provide large and small charitable contributions. These monetary gifts, as well as ongoing volunteerism from broker associates, management team and staff, have added up to thousands of volunteer hours and $1.3 million worth of donations to a wide array of local causes.

Key Mortgage Recognizes a Record-Setting Year

Key Mortgage celebrated the close of a successful 2012 with the company’s annual year-end awards party on January 22. In addition to announcing record years for many of the company’s loan officers, several operational support staff members were honored as well.

“2012 was a fantastic year for us. Our total loan volume increased 67 percent from last year, and 78 percent of our business was home purchases” said Steve DiMarco, president of Key Mortgage. “Not only are we up in just about every aspect of our business, we were named Lender of the Year by Chicago Agent magazine and a top five lender for the Illinois Housing Development Authority. I’m so proud of our results in 2012, and I’m filled with confidence for what 2013 holds.”

Key Mortgage saw 90 percent of its team increase production from 2011. While in 2011 none of the company’s loan officer wrote over 80 units, nine loan officers wrote over 80 deals and four wrote over 100 in 2012. Three loan officers doubled their production from 2011.

Loan officers Dan Matas, Anthony Marinaccio and John Poast were recognized as members of the first annual President’s Club, which requires at least $24,000,000 in annual closed loan production. Dan Matas earned the title of top producing loan officer in volume and units for the company.

In addition to the top loan officers, several operational support achievers at Key Mortgage were recognized for their personal contribution. Kim Loomis was named the most productive loan processor; Jackie Redman received accolades for Most Loans Closed; Joanne Alitto was named the Top Producer, Most Underwritten Loans; and Betsy Martinez was named Top Producer, Most Post Closed/Shipped Loans.

Baird & Warner Donates $50,000 to Chicago Food Pantries, Local Charities in December
The Baird & Warner Good Will Network Increases $25,000 to $50,000

Chicago, Ill. – December 21, 2012 – The Baird & Warner Good Will Network has donated $50,000 to local charities this month, providing aid to non-profit organizations that assist Chicagoland residents. Of the total $50,000 donation, $25,000 was given to the joint effort between the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Northern Illinois Food Bank, $10,000 was given to both the CARA Program and La Casa Norte and $5,000 was given to Genesis House.

These charities were selected by the Baird & Warner broker associate advisory board and then voted on by the entire company. While the original goal was to give away $25,000 to one charity, an outpouring of support led the Baird & Warner Good Will Network to increase its donation to benefit all five organizations.

“We created the Baird & Warner Good Will Network in 2002 to help raise money in the aftermath of September 11. What has kept it going all of these years has been the generous spirit of our broker associates and staff which was demonstrated in the astounding support we received for these worthy charities,” said Jennifer Alter Warden, president of residential sales at Baird & Warner.

The Baird & Warner Home Office team will collect professional clothing for the Cara Program’s students from October 22 – 26 at the company’s corporate office, 120 South LaSalle.

Baird & Warner Barrington will gather 30 to 40 broker associates to clean up a portion of Northwest Highway on October 12.

Baird & Warner City North is volunteering for the morning shift at the Greater Chicago Food Depository on October 27.

Baird & Warner Downers Grove is collecting coats for veterans throughout the month of October and will deliver them during the Red, White and Blue Ball hosted by the Lisle Rotary Club.

Baird & Warner Edgebrook will collect non-perishable food and clothing items for the New Hope Food Pantry throughout October. The office has also partnered with Nonno Pino Italian Kitchen to create a benefit night. On Wednesday, October 24, 20 percent of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to the New Hope Food Pantry.

Baird & Warner Evanston will be at Jewel (1128 Chicago Avenune, Evanston) collecting food donations for Connection for the Homeless on October 27 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Baird & Warner Glen Ellyn is collecting cell phones throughout the month. Proceeds from the collection will be donated to Bridge Communities.

Baird & Warner Highland Park is working with A Safe Place on their annual fundraising event on October 20. The office will help with such activities as set-up, programs and table centerpieces.

Baird & Warner Lake Forest will collect canned goods and toiletries for the Shields Township Food Pantry on October 27 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Jewel (890 N. Western Ave, Lake Forest).

Baird & Warner Naperville will collect non-perishable food items in front of Casey’s Food (124 West Gartner Road, Naperville) on Saturday, October 27 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. for Loaves & Fishes.

Baird & Warner Oak Park is collecting food items for the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry until October 31. The office will also give $5 for every new property listing and $10 for every new Baird & Warner Title order or Key Mortgage mortgage application. All collected funds will be donated to the food pantry as well.

Baird & Warner Orland Park will host a free shredding day, food drive and winter apparel on October 20 from 9 – 11 a.m. at the office. Food items will be donated to Operation Blessing and winter apparel will be donated to the Rotary Club of Orland Park.

Baird & Warner Palatine is collecting items for a silent auction taking place at a REALTORS® Against Homelessness event to benefit homeless District 211 students.

Baird & Warner Winnetka will collect non-perishable food items in front of Grand Food Center (606 Green Bay Road, Winnetka) to benefit the New Trier Food Pantry on October 20 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Former President of MLS Giant Honored With Distinguished Service Award

Midwest Real Estate Data (MRED), the Chicagoland multiple listing service (MLS), announced that its former President, Dean Rouso, was awarded the MRED Distinguished Service Award at a ceremony that took place during MRED's recent Strategic Planning conference in downtown Chicago.

Mr. Rouso, a Broker with Baird & Warner in LaGrange, Illinois, has been a member of MRED's Board since its inception in April 2008. In addition to his MLS service, Mr. Rouso has dedicated years of service to his local Association, the MainStreet Organization of Realtors®, as well as the Illinois and National Associations of Realtors®. In January 2010, he was elected to the office of MRED President and served until his successor's election in January 2012.

His years of service as an MRED Board member as well as President were of deep significance to the organization. It was under Rouso's leadership that a well-functioning Board of Managers was formed, and he spearheaded the search and selection process of MRED CEO Russ Bergeron. The success and prominence of MRED in the real estate industry is a tribute to the vision Rouso embraced and helped to implement. His contributions came at a critical time in the life of MRED which merited this special acknowledgement from MRED and its leadership.

Baird & Warner Ranked as One of the Top Power Brokers in the Country

RISMedia released its 24th Annual Power Broker Survey in the magazine’s April issue, and Baird & Warner was listed among the largest and highest producing real estate companies in the country.

This ranking includes brokerages that meet specific transaction, sales volume, total office and total agent criteria to come up with a 300-company list. Out of 300, Baird & Warner was ranked number 12.

“I’ve always been confident in our place among the best of the best in the real estate industry, but a third party validation from RISMedia is significant,” said Steve Baird. “While 2011 was another tough year for the housing market, we performed admirably and all signs are pointing up. We’re very optimistic about 2012.”

Last year saw more declining home values, but many power brokers predict that it was the final chapter in the six-year struggle. In the 2012 Power Broker Survey issue, the magazine gauges agent sentiment with regard to the future of the housing market.

While many are cautiously optimistic, there are several factors that have brokers betting on a better year: rising rents combined with low home prices have now made owning a home more affordable than renting one; the overall employment picture is improving; and investors will begin decreasing excess inventory which could provide an unanticipated boost to home values.



 

 

Jim Kinney Appointed to IAR Treasurer

A long-time advocate and active supporter of the real estate industry, Baird & Warner's Jim Kinney was slated as the 2013 Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) 2013 treasurer at last week’s IAR Spring Meeting. From there he will serve as the 2014 IAR president-elect and 2015 IAR president.

“This election continues my passion for involvement in the real estate industry and underscores my ability to be a spokesperson for the industry, both statewide and nationally,” said Kinney. “My commitment to make the real estate industry better for those who work within is something that the consumer and the practitioner can relate to.”

The one-year process involved many committee reviews and interviews. Jim’s candidacy was approved by a nominating committee in March 2011. From there, Jim and a panel of his supporters were involved in several different committee interviews. The official decision was made March 27, 2012 and announced on March 28.

“In addition to protecting private property rights in Illinois, I want to bring us professionally and legally to the next level of our business,” said Kinney. “We’re currently seeing technology run ahead of where we are legislatively, and we need to make sure license and state law keeps up to make the home buying process smoother for the realtor and the consumer.”

Kinney’s road to treasurer began long before his candidacy announcement at the 2011 IAR Spring Meeting. He became involved in IAR when he was appointed a manager at Rubloff Residential Properties in 1992. He quickly became involved in two major industry changes, one of which was the merger of 17 different MSLs, and was awarded several prestigious positions within the Chicago Association of REALTORS® (CAR). Jim also served as National Association of REALTORS® presidential liaison to Ireland for five years.

Kinney’s involvement with IAR began through the Graduate Real Estate Institute (GRI) program. After six years on the committee, he was selected dean of the program and education chair at CAR. Professional education became a major issue for Kinney, and once he received his Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and Certified Real Estate Brokerage (CRB) designations, he chaired the Illinois Real Estate Education Foundation (REEF). Kinney’s success earned him a scholarship in his name for children and grandchildren of realtors.
 

Baird & Warner Oak Park Lists Ernest Hemingway's Boyhood Home

A piece of Chicago history is on the market: Ernest Hemingway’s boyhood home is currently being sold by the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park for $525,000. This famous property was listed by Steve Scheuring of the Oak Park office.

“The building was originally designed as a glorious home for entertaining. It once had a music room off the north side and she [Hemingway’s mother, Grace Hall Hemingway] held music events in the home while the front two rooms off the entry foyer were his father’s physician offices,” Scheuring said in an interview with the “Chicago Sun-Times.” 

Currently a three-flat with all three units rented, it was originally a single-family home designed by H. Fiddelke with the help of Grace Hall Hemingway. The family moved here from another Oak Park home in 1906, and the author lived there until he enlisted in World War I. When Hemingway returned with serious war wounds, this is where he recovered and began writing stories.

Bill Kashul Named Sales Manager at Baird & Warner Lake Forest


Baird & Warner is pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Kashul as Sales Manager for the brokerage firm’s Lake Forest office located at 207 E. Westminster, Lake Forest, IL 60045 (847-234-1855).

Kashul, a long time resident of Lake Forest, has enjoyed a successful real estate sales career in the Lake Forest community for many years. Prior to selling real estate Kashul managed sales teams for several companies, including serving as sales vice president for a division of a large telecom company where he was responsible for recruiting, training and coaching sales people. Kashul joins Baird & Warner from Prudential Rubloff where he served as a sales agent.

For the second consecutive year, Baird & Warner has earned the Website Quality Certification (WQC) designation presented by Leading Real Estate Companies of the World to member companies that have demonstrated excellence in website design, functionality, and execution.

In order to earn the WQC, every dimension of the real estate firm’s site, www.bairdwarner.com, was rigorously reviewed by an independent panel of technology experts to ensure that exacting standards were met in several key areas -- ranging from design and content to human interactivity and search engine optimization. Of all sites reviewed in the network, Baird & Warner placed among the very top – scoring 57 points, out of a maximum possible 60 available in all categories.

B&W Good Will Network Raises $30k for Haiti Relief

Thanks to the outstanding generosity of our employees and sales associates, the B&W Good Will Network was able to raise nearly $30,000 to benefit the earthquake victims of Haiti!

This money supported critical efforts such as supplying health clinic patients with medical care, food and water; providing emergency shelter kits to help protect families against the elements; and delivering relief supplies such as water purification tablets, hygiene kits and mosquito nets.

Between January 15 and February 15, all donations made to the B&W Good Will Network fund by sales and mortgage transaction contributions were earmarked for the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.  Additionally, the company matched all individual contributions from sales associates and employees during this period dollar-for-dollar.

"I was very proud of the outpouring of concern from people within the company who wanted to find a way to help," said B&W President & CEO Steve Baird. "As Haiti continues its recovery efforts, it is good to know that we were able to lend a hand and make a difference."

A recent article in the Chicago Tribune highlighted Bairdwarner.com's new Foreclosure Search tool and also quoted B&W VP of Strategic Development John D'Ambrogio.

For every 10 homes sold within the city, however, four were distressed properties.  Once dismissed as unseemly, foreclosures are becoming more commonplace, and their bargain prices are causing a ripple throughout the market.

"Five years ago, foreclosures were a little stigmatized, and they weren't representative of what's out there," John D'Ambrogio said in the article. "Now you have foreclosures that are $1 million, and they're nice properties.  They don't have damage to them.  They're the new normal."

Chicago's Highest Priced Listing

Baird & Warner VP of Luxury Home Sales Jim Kinney recently listed the 13,200-square-foot penthouse of chewing gum heir and Wrigley co. chairman Bill Wrigley Jr. for an astonishing $14 million, making it the highest priced residential listing in Chicago.

Located in the city's Gold Coast neighborhood, the full-floor penthouse is raw, undeveloped space on the eighth floor of the Lucien Lagrange-designed limestone building at 65 E. Goethe St. The home includes two 1,500-square-foot outdoor spaces on the roof, plus six garage spots.

"It's such a prestigious building," said Kinney. "It's sort of a Who's Who of Chicago that lives there.

Wrigley purchased the home, which is three units combined into one, in 2002 for $9,775,000. According to Jim, Wrigley intended to build out the space, but later changed his mind. Architectural drawings previously commissioned for the space are included in the asking price.

Wrigley's $14 million asking price dwarfs the previous highest-priced residential listing in Chicago -- JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon's $10.5 million 26-room, 15,000-square-foot mansion on Astor Street, which is still on the market.
