For everything apple, make your way to Curran’s Orchard in Rockford. Try their apple donuts, pies and award-winning cider while strolling the beautiful orchard, picking some of your own to take home! Added perks include glazed nuts, honey, real maple syrup, jams, gourmet dressings, caramel apples, wagon rides, straw mini-maze and climbing bales!
There’s no better family fall activity then spending the day at Kuipers Family Farm in Maple Park. With too much fun to handle, the farm not only offers apple picking, but also pumpkins, hayrides, corn mazes, pony rides, petting zoo and a haunted forest. (Apple picking only on weekends!)
A special farm, prided on their ample selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, Pick the Farm of Homer Glen offers the best of the best! Aside from all varieties of apples, farm goers this fall can pick an assortment of squash, broccoli, brussels sprouts, kale, greens, pumpkins and much more. Visitors can also pick fresh herbs from the field!
Visit Harvard for the country’s first-ever apple tree maze, Amaze N Apples at Royal Oak Farm Orchard. With over 1.5 miles of winding trails and over 2,500 apple trees with nine different varieties, this maze will have you giddy and busy as you make your way across the five acres it covers. Make sure you find your way out to enjoy the pumpkin picking, carousel, petting zoo, tours and train ride.
Eighteen varieties of apples? Yes please! Edward’s Orchard West in Winnebago is a little under two hours by car from the Chicago area, but it’s definitely worth going the extra mile. An apple orchard and farm market, this place has tons of family activities including apple picking, a play area, petting farm and dairy barn. And in case you don’t immediately smell them, make sure to find the warm apple cider donuts and homemade apple cider.
Honey Hill Orchard has more than just amazing honey. Visit this Waterman family operated orchard, located about an hour and a half from Chicago, for a chance to pick your own apples, raspberries and pumpkins. Hinted from its name, there are also sweet treats for the kids at the orchard, like Honey Hill candy and caramel apples.
Aside from offering over 8,000 apple trees to pick from, Jonamac Orchard in Malta also has a 10-acre corn maze, petting zoo and pony rides for the kiddos. Speaking of kiddos, on weekends there’s a special apple train, apple launcher and apple cannon — talk about family fun! When the fun is over, make sure you stop by the country store for everything from apple pies to apple pizzas. Yes, pizzas.
All Seasons Orchard in Woodstock features more than 7,000 apple trees. The orchard has different seasonal offerings, including a pumpkin patch for the impending Halloween holiday. There’s also a corn maze, cow train, goat bridge, corn crib, giant swings, spider web, jumping pillow and petting zoo. Stop by on the weekend to enjoy pig races and magic shows.
