Love airplanes? How about boats? How about the beach? If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of these, then the Chicago Air and Water Show is the place for you this weekend. Celebrating its 55th year, this annual event will take place at North Avenue Beach on August 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Chicago Air & Water Show is the largest of its kind in the entire country….and it’s free! This year’s headliners include AeroShell Aerobatic Team, Sean D. Tucker & Team Oracle, Lima Lima Flight Team and many more. These headliners are well known for flying all different types of airplanes and performing stunts on these crafts. From flips to twirls, you can see these airplanes do incredible things during this year’s show.
If you can’t decide which is your favorite – air or water demonstrations – you can sit back and enjoy both during the water planes show! The Chicago Fire Department Air/Sea Rescue will also put on a performance.
This year’s show will be hosted by Herb Hunter who has been hosting the show for 20 years. There will be concessions on site in case you get hungry, but it’s a great idea to bring a cooler with some water and drinks.
The best viewing spot is at the ‘Show Center’ on North Avenue Beach, Oak Street Beach and Ohio Street Beach. Parking is brutal but possible. The best option is to park at one of the Millennium Park garages and take the shuttle to the beach.
And don’t forget the sunscreen!
